Aftercare

Deciding on aftercare after the passing of a companion animal is a personal decision, and we can help assist in choosing the option that suits you best.

Three options are available:

  • Aquamation
  • Cremation
  • Home burial

Aquamation

We are pleased to partner with Reflections Pet Aquamation Services in Kitchener, Ontario to offer a gentle, eco-friendly aftercare option for your pet. Aquamation uses water instead of fire to respectfully care for your pet’s remains, consuming 90% less energy and producing 20% more ashes than traditional cremation. This sustainable process aligns with our commitment to the environment while honouring the memory of your beloved companion.

Cremation

Cremation is offered through Gateway Pet Memorial who provide a dignified and respectful cremation service for our treasured pets. Pet cremation is a process that uses high heat to reduce a pet’s remains to ashes.

Options for aquamation or cremation:
Private or communal

Private: with this option, your pet is the only pet in the aquamation basket or cremation chamber. Once the process is complete, you will receive only your pet’s remains. The ashes will be returned to your regular veterinary clinic in your selected urn, accompanied by a certificate confirming that your pet was privately aquamated or cremated.

Communal: your pet is gently placed into the aquamation basket or cremation chamber together with other pets. This option is intended for families who do not wish to have their pet’s remains returned. With aquamation, your pet’s ashes are scattered in a private wooded area in southern Ontario. For cremation, the ashes are scattered at Sandy Ridge pet cemetery located outside of London, ON. Since cremated remains are not returned with communal options, you may wish to consider other memorial items, such as a paw print, to keep as a memory.

Home burial

Some families prefer to bury their pet at home as this can be a very meaningful way to honour their life. Please be aware some municipalities have by-laws regarding home burial of pets, and we recommend contacting your city/township office to learn more.
